By Daphne Bowen

A speech that discriminates individuals because of the color of their skin, their tribes, political affiliations and the faith they profess is considered to be hate speech. Speech that victimizes members who are disabled is known as disability hate speech. Disabled people communicate in their own means for example using nonverbal cues to express themselves. They are still isolated in society by the able persons.

Hate speech against person on basis of their religion or race has been easy to eliminate unlike this kind of address. The hate crimes mentioned above, like religion could be controlled easily unlike disability which involves majorly physical parts of the body which are easily observable. Any label on individuals with disabilities focuses a lot on their disadvantages and casts a shadow on their advantages and strengths boundary is created between the two groups of people.

Law enforcement agencies have been reluctant in punishing those who propagate cruel speech. This demoralizes the victims of hate. They will have developed a perception that no one will believe in them even if their case are reported. This kills their confidence in dealing with the problems affecting them hence their problems shall remain unresolved thus making them apologetic of their situation.

Many organizations mushroomed to curb the many rising cases of incapacitated persons and fight for equality amongst the people and make sure that the representation of all underprivileged persons at all platforms including government offices, social media and entertainment. Every company whether owned by government or private sectors should reserve some chances for the disabled in their company employments. This will make every speaker to moderate his/her language and choice of words thus makes the relation of their employees concrete.

Discouraging stereotypes from the minds of persons in society is a priority of these organizations. The privileged individuals in society should not be a barrier to other peoples freedom of expressing themselves . In the time of conflict on which is important between community interests protection and safeguarding persons rights, balancing should be done that does not limit the speakers freedom and protect other people rights.

Biased expressions allow minorities to suffer from being attributed with negativity, and are directly harmful to them. The speech may cause the recipient to suffer direct physical or emotional changes. Hence, the continued use of negative expressions generates a feeling of inferiority to their community status which may affect their psychological well-being in an irreversible way.

So many countries all over the world are trying their best by devising some ways to curb this kind of speech. One of them is creating societies in schools that involves members who are disabled in some way. This gives them a chance to contribute to activities in the society.

Tops in the government are given to members of the underprivileged society this puts them on the nation and international map, this shows that disability is never inability. Counseling centers have also been set to attend to victims of disability hate address. Institutions have been put in place to bring to book those who utter words that may stir hate amongst the citizens. Every speech should be filtered before it is released to the consuming public.
