Special And Authentic Greek Cuisine

Greeks are known for their tasty meals. When looking at cuisines, they rank top among communities with the widest range of meals. Authentic Greek cuisine is also tasty with a serving for every time of day and season of year. Some of the components you expect to find include grains, bread, all types of meat, fish and wine. For desert you can expect to find honey, bread, herbs, pastry and nuts, among others.

The serving of salads and appetizers will instantly ignite your appetite. Among the most common is Mezedes, a choice for those moments when you receive an impromptu guest or are in a hurry. Other salad and appetizer options include kalamata, gavros, fava and deep friend vegetables. What is referred to as Greek Salad is prepared using finely shred tomatoes that are mixed with cheese, cucumber, red onions and topped with olive oil.

It is seasoning that differentiates vegetable soups. Most of the vegetables used are common. For instance, lentil soup requires the addition of vinegar and olive oil. Rice soup is prepared by adding meat balls. There is kakavia soup that is common because it can be made using any local fish species as long as the bones are removed. Flavoring of rice and chicken soup requires the addition of lemon.

Vegetarians have a wide range of healthy and nutritious foods to choose from. The vegetarian diet is also perfect for fasting because it provides all the energy and nutrients the body requires. The plate may include fresh peas baked in an oven, carrot dill, potatoes, onions and aromatic herbs. Though greens are mainly used as appetizers, they also form part of light main course meals alongside boiled potatoes and beans.

Meat and sea foods formed a crucial part of Greek meals. The most common servings were beef, lean pork and lobsters. They are mostly prepared into meat balls or may form part of soup. Grilling meat and seasoning it with lemon, herbs and pepper made it tasty and aromatic for the table. Another common serving was hare or rabbit stew with wine after cinnamon flavoring.

Quick fix meals allowed Greeks to save time and use locally available ingredients. These ingredients would mainly be fresh and affordable. Spaghetti and macaroni were the most common servings topped with soup and vegetables. Omelet also forms part of the foods prepared within the shortest time. A native dish called Hilopites required savory chicken in the shape of tiles with an addition of tomato sauce.

Greeks have a wide selection of deserts and sweets to top your main dish. Almonds are common in preparation of deserts. They are made in form of balls and spiced with sugar and rose water. Nuts also feature prominently in this category. There are Christmas cookies as well that are dusted with powder sugar. You may also opt for yogurt that is made with honey and walnuts.

After meals, you have an option of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. You may also opt for beverages like coffee and tea which may be served with snacks or without. The addition of fresh herbs like mint and chamomile makes your cup tastier. Beers and wines for Greeks are brewed to perfection using authentic ingredients. There is the option of local liquor that is sweetly flavored.
