The Florida Office of Vital Statistics is the office in-charge of maintaining Florida Divorce Records. Since June 6, 1927, all divorce documents, including the other public documents, that were filed in the state of Florida are sent to the state's unified repository. Requests for documents filed from that date can be done at the office. Requests for documents that were filed before that date can be done only at the County Clerk of Court where the divorce was finalized.

Anyone can access divorce records because they are part public records. If you want to access your own records, you will be given access to the entire record. However, if you requesting for the records of another person, you will only be given limited information about it to preserve the rights to privacy of the owner.

In any court, only a divorce document is acknowledged as a supporting document to show the validity of a divorce. If by chance a divorced individual intends to go through marriage again, he or she must secure a copy of his or her own divorce documents and present to a judge who will be handling the application of a marriage license. Another instance where a divorce document can be of use is when you want to find out the terms and conditions of a divorce case.

If you want to place a request for divorce records, you can visit the official site of the Office of Vital Statistics and look for the official request form. Supply the appropriate information on the required fields. A valid ID that is issued by the government must be presented as proof of your identity. Then you have to specify how you are related to the owner of the records and why you wish to obtain the records. A fee of $5 is charged for every copy of the records and $4 for extra copies. All payments made are non-refundable even the records are not located.

In every search, it is necessary that you are able to provide the full name of either of the couple and the year when the divorce was granted. Including the year helps in making the retrieval process a lot speedier. Now if you do not know the year, you can list down the range of years to be search but it will cost $2 for each year that is looked into. It is also necessary to provide you contact details so the office knows to which address to send the records once found.
