Child Abduction Awareness Is Promoted On Television And Milk Cartons

By Nora Jennings

There have been so many children taken that it seems impossible that anyone could be unaware of the danger. Every day a little one is taken from a seemingly safe place. It seems useful to take in all the news stories because child abduction awareness can make some of these horrendous kidnappings impossible.

There was the case of a mom running in to pick up one item at a convenience store in the middle of the day. It was cold so she left her six-year old daughter in the warm car. Yes, she was gone for less than five minutes. It was long enough for an opportunistic pervert to open the car door and disappear with the little girl.

A parent may load the car in front of the home and go back to fetch a baby. While he is carrying out the infant, the young child is taken. It only required three minutes for the first child to be taken away.

It can happen just that fast. In some instances a boy leaves school to walk home with a group of friends. He vanishes between the school and the home.

This situation seems to grow more common with every passing day. Children above a certain age can be taught how to handle an attempt. First, never walk close to a stranger in a car. Some perverts use the ruse of asking for directions to lure a girl close enough to reach out and pull her into the car.

Second, if a stranger grabs them, make as much noise as possible to attract attention. Scream, kick and do anything to get away. Third, never listen to what a stranger tells them. The kindest looking woman or man may be a kidnapper.

But, the smartest child under a certain age can be fooled. A stranger might look sad and ask them to help find a lost puppy. Someone they have seen while with a parent may convince the child to accept a ride home.

Precautions are taken. Small children cannot be released from school unless the approved parent or caretaker picks them up. Bedroom windows are closed and locked at night.

Young girls abducted have been imprisoned for extended periods of time without discovery. They may have been chained inside a house. Some are threatened with a beating or other punishment if they attempt an escape.

When an abduction does occur, the police should be contacted immediately. If anyone sees a child being taken write down or memorize the license plate number. Remember any relevant details such as color of the vehicle or what the abductor looked like.

The laws in our nation have some responsibility for allowing perverts to become repeat offenders. A rapist may get out of prison after a minimal number of years. A psychiatrist may testify that he is rehabilitated.

The reality is that any gambler can place odds on how soon he will abduct and rape another innocent child. Parents and other caretakers may take all precautions to no avail. How many more little ones must be abducted before the laws are revised to prevent the rights of the pervert to supercede the rights of the innocent.
