The kind of material a person uses will depend on his capital, number of cattle or livestock held and whether he or she wants a permanent or semi-permanent structure. The material to be used may also depend on farms location, terrain and weather conditions of that place. The kind of fence a person wants will determine the kind of materials to use. But in some cases the following will affect the kind of material one installs. Capital, climatic conditions and number of animals or livestock held are some of the factors that influence the kind of fence to install. Other factors that may influence the choice of fencing materials include terrain, location of your farm, and kind of animals being reared in your farm.

If a fence is properly constructed using this conventional materials, it can still become an excellent fence.

Age, breed and system of production of animals also influence the type of fence to construct. Some of modern fences now include poly coat fence, board fence for cattle, woven wire for livestock and lastly high tensile cattle fence.

Some of the materials common used in the past include, electrified wire, woven, barbed wire, mesh wire and in some rare cases, some farmers may combine all of this materials to make one very strong fence. Board fence was also a common barrier used by some farmers. Every farmer wants a strong, durable and economical fence.

Some of the maintenance needed on any fence includes replacing, retensioning corners and resettling staples. The advantages of using woven wire fence include, having a strong fence, secure, and relatively good looking. It confines almost all livestock that is including sheep as well as goats. The disadvantages associated with woven fence are, the high initial cost, the maintenance cost is quite high and requires a lot of labor hours to install.
