We are not talking hundreds of years far off, something in the comfortably distant future that we won't have to worry about and can entrust our grandchildren to deal with. Gods timelines are major events that are said to be looming closer and closer according to Biblical evidence.

The first thing that is said to happen soon is that there will be a Palestinian Israeli peace agreement, two nations which have been at war with each other since the dawn of time it seems. Following this event, the construction of a temple will occur on Mount Israel. The Israelites are foreseen to go back to old ways that were seen in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible, particularly the sacrificing of animals.
The Antichrist will come to Earth and head straight to Israel, where he will stop the people there from carrying out their practices of sacrificing animals to show their love for God. The time when the Antichrist's identity will be unveiled for all to know will happen during an event known as Abomination of Desolation. From here, it only gets worse, as we then get into what's called the tribulations, which can't be good.
Once the Antichrist has come to this Earth, God will speak through two prophets who will work together to counter this evil. This is certainly not the first time we've seen God work in this way before. It is hard to say how well two prophets will fare against such an enemy.
There will be many years of trials ahead once Antichrist has shown his ugly face. As we get even further and further into what the world is going to become, we see other specific horrors that are detailed. The mark of the beast being implemented is just one of these things.
Some people can take comfort in the sadness brought on by a rain storm by remembering that there will be a rainbow afterward. One can look at the end of the world a similar way since Armageddon is a sign that the second coming of Christ is right around the corner. This is a great comfort when thinking about the looming Battle of Armageddon.
