The Primary Goal Of The Defenders Of The Gospel

By Elizabeth Powell

It is a very challenging and often daunting task to spread the word of God. The Bible, which is the written and true word of God is the best-selling book in all of the world. Even though a lot of people have heard of the Bible and read some portion of it, they often have misunderstandings about what it means. This makes it vital for defenders of the Gospel to know what their purpose truly is.

For one thing, the Gospel itself is not what people think it is. In an accurate translation of this word, Gospel means good news. In fact, it actually means news that is so good that it is almost impossible to be true. Understanding this fact can help to do away with the many negative connotations that surround the Bible and God Himself.

This is ultimately the story of the life and sacrifice of Jesus. More than who Jesus is and what his mission was, it is the tell of how and why he did it. People tend to punish themselves whenever sin has made their consciences heavy with guilt. God can also punish these individuals and the devil stands ready as their accuser. Moreover, dying in a life of sin can actually cause a person to go to hell.

However, because Christ has overcome sin by paying the ultimate penalty for it, people only need to believe in Jesus Christ and this amazing sacrifice that he has made to allow them to overcome death. This sacrifice has given mankind assured access to eternal life if they would only believe. They also need to confess their sins and acknowledge Jesus as the risen son of the Almighty God.

When you defend the Gospel, however, you cannot make concessions concerning in. This is because the hour is late and Christ could return any day. This is not good diplomacy. Good representatives have to tell people the truth. Even though people are forgiven their sins through their belief in Christ, they should not willfully continue sinning.

There is actually a very fine line that people must walk between representing Christ and upholding the law. A belief in Christ allows for forgiveness for all things. A relationship with and love of Christ, however, should inspire new and more seasoned Christians to live lifestyles that are righteous.

All defenders should also remember that no one is righteous before the Lord. The only man that has ever walked the earth and left it sin-free was Christ himself. Thus, judging others is not the goal of representing God. It is instead, convincing the world how much Jesus loved all of humanity in order to sacrifice himself.

When people are encouraged to understand how freely God and Jesus give their love, they will have a much higher likelihood of making a longstanding commitment to Christ. Thus, instead of telling people that they are going to hell because they are sinners, the goal is to share the good news; that God truly loves them. This should be done with humility and with the knowledge that building a relationship with Christ is the first step in getting rid of the desire to sin.
