Views On Major Catholic Issues

By Kathleen Murphy

There is a lot of information and commentary regarding catholic all over. The hard part now is choosing important issues to follow. A knowledge on the history of the church provides necessary tools that make it possible to deal with the current issues threatening faith, theology, moral and social aspects of church. Some of the Catholic Issues are discussed below.

Human civilization undergoes evolution each and every day that goes by. Changing factors in faith, theology and other issues have received the most attention. The increased number of unanswered critics among the Catholics has affected the number of believers. Unlike the past where very many people opted for priesthood, recent trends show otherwise. There are not enough priests to meet the growing need. This has especially been an issue in the US.

In a bid to deal with the raising dilemma, the faithful in especially America were of the opinion that adjustments be made to the policies governing the catholic nature. This idea was however not received well by the Vatican. Some of changes that these people sought included the instilling of female priesthood and marriage rights for priest as well. These were findings made by the American press polls after a survey on the same.

The Catholic has for years swept most of the sexual misconducts done by its priests under the mat. The irresponsible actions performed by the priests have peaked new heights in recent years. The church has been criticized for its attempts to cover up such vices. It has been noted to protect the priests, silence the victims or transferring the alleged priests. Faithful are calling on more tough measures to be implemented to see that justice is given to the victims.

The hottest issue on air in the current community is that of homosexuality. Very many controversies have risen in the community. The Catholic Church however has stood firm against this practice despite the struggle for gay rights in the modern community. Recent developments show that catholic leaders have taken a lighter stand on the issue.

One of the most celebrated catholic leaders of all time Pope John Paul was a man of his opinion. For the 26 years that he was supreme among catholic leaders never once did he waiver his opinion or change stand on crucial issues. Communism and the use of birth control measures are some of the things that he strongly opposed. To date he is blamed for population explosion in some communities.

Some few issues have led to a large cultural gap between the Vatican and US Catholic Church. The Vatican has remained staunchly opposed to ordination of women while a huge number of Americans seem to support the idea or ordaining women. A large percentage of a survey conducted responded that women need to be offered rights to join priesthood.

The thought of serving a vengeful supreme has disturbed the minds of very many believers. This is especially when it comes to the case of fornication. Many preachers dealing with sexual relations out of marriage use threats of a vengeful god to sway the masses. The faithful reproached this issue asking that it is looked at from the point of honorary behavior, humanity and good character as opposed to the use of threats.
