An Insight Into Urban Education Issues

By Amy White

In the modern world, learning plays a significant role in modeling students to achieve their goals and become what they desired to become in life. Urban learning system seems to dominate because of the accessibility of the schools and many facilities as compared to the rural learning system. The education system adopted by many parents should be thought of before enrolling students in the institution. Many challenges face the city learning system, and they vary from one region to the other. This article illustrates imminent urban education issues faced by schools in the city and some solutions which may be of help to enhance smooth learning.

One of the main challenges in city schools is overcrowding. Many schools in town tend to have a high number of students due to the high population witnessed in many cities. As a parent or guardian you should consider the number of learners in a particular school of choice and if the number is too high, consider another option such as enrolling your child in a rural setting.

The other concern facing schooling in town is environmental concerns. Cities have industries which can affect students negatively due to noise or air pollution. Besides, hooting can reduce attentiveness of students and thus the local government should ensure they put up signboards discouraging hooting near the schools. Moreover, bad vehicles which smoke a lot should be removed from the street to avoid respiratory infection as a result of the excessive smoke.

You will also find other schools located in an area prone to gangster and violence which may hinder learning and concentration of students. In this case, it is vital for an institution together with the government to enhance security by employing security guards or armed law enforcers to monitor security situations at all times. Moreover, construction of a perimeter fence around the compound can enhance safety and make students feel secure.

In most parts of the globe, many schools built in towns may get underfunded and may lack adequate resources. In most cases, it is because the local authorities deliberate on providing less vital supplies which are necessary for learning like books and stationery. The government and management of such schools should distribute adequate resource to facilitate learning in the school.

There are various cultures and beliefs in urban dwellings. Moreover, religious affiliations of city dwellers may affect relationships between students to teachers. In such a case the teachers may not be in a position to fully understand the needs of every student. With the various society and language, the school should learn to embrace the cultures and religion and put up procedures to safeguard every society represented in schools.

Technology can be useful but on the other hand, may distort the minds of students if misused. Students from town schools get exposed to the internet and can misuse it by gaming or watching of unwanted material. The school should enhance counseling programs to educate the student on the need to use technology wisely for educational research purpose.

There are many challenges faced by students and the school at large in town learning systems. They include overcrowding, environmental issues among others. Some of these challenges can be handled when strict measures are taken to enhance smooth learning.
