Depend On A Car Care Kit For Improved Auto Safety

By Eric Holm

A flat tire is an inconvenience that nobody wants to have to deal with but chances are good every driver will experience one. With the proper tools and a spare tire, anyone can quickly change the flat and get back on the road. Auto safety depends on preparation and making sure you have everything you need in case of an emergency can mean the difference between a slight inconvenience and a huge problem. Many cars will have a spare tire, usually under a panel inside the trunk. The typical spare tire is slightly smaller than an average car tire and far less durable. It is designed only to get you far enough to find a place where you can purchase a replacement. Getting stranded without a spare is much more complicated because someone will have to deliver a tire to your location or you will have to have the car towed.

However, if you do have a spare, then you must use it. In addition to that, you will need a nut driver to remove the nuts from the flat tire. You will also need a light so that you can see, provided it's already dark outside. When it's dark, you don't have much, if any light to deal with.

If it's the battery, it's a good idea to have a pair of booster cables. You can't always assume or depend on another person having cables if they stop to assist you. Once the vehicles are set up where you can get a boost, then the vehicle should charge up again.

However, if it's not the battery, it may be the spark plugs. In that case, have a spark plug tester available to see if they are operating properly. Actually, anything could be wrong with your vehicle. It doesn't have to be either of the above. However, it's a good idea to have as many different tools and accessories as possible. So when you find out what the problem is, you will be able to make a connection. If it's not severe, you can fix it right where you are.

Everyone should purchase or assemble a vehicle safety kit to stow inside the car. It can be easily transferred to a rental vehicle if necessary. First aid supplies, assorted screwdrivers, wrenches and a tire repair kit are all handy things to have around in case of an emergency. Regardless of how far you drive, it pays to be prepared for any emergency situation.
