Management Of The Affairs Of State In The US

By Ina Hunt

All countries always strive to carefully and cautiously take care of their affairs, especially those touching on security and relating with other countries. Such affairs of state need to be kept away from the ears of ordinary citizens as much as it may be possible. This is usually done for the sake of protecting the citizens themselves. They should, therefore, not worry about being denied access to such information.

In America, the Secretary of state is in charge of such matters. He deals with all foreign affairs; he acts as the main adviser of the president on foreign issues, and also accomplishes the foreign policies developed by the president. Foreign policies include foreign services, civil services and the agency meant to foster international development. He/she does all these activities through the department of state. John Kerry is the current office holder.

Currently, John Kerry represents the US and their standpoints of various key issues around the world. He has given the views of his country regarding the state of things in Syria, Iran, Somalia and Russia among many other countries faced with conflicts. He has also stated the views held by the country regarding contemporary issues such as homosexuality, female genital mutilation, climate change and millennium development goals.

This office also has the duty of establishing good relationship between the US and each country in this world. This objective is usually achieved through giving assistance; both financial and non-financial to nations that may be in need of such assistance. It is through such cooperation that good relationship sprouts.

There is an established section within this department that specifically handles environmental, economic and energy matters. Main areas in this section are climatic change, science and technology, food security, trade programs and policies and disadvantaged small business utilization.

The other department is concerned with control of arms and internal security. Under this category, officers work hard to counter internal terrorism, manage the use of arms, diplomatic security, trade controls, formulating anti-narcotic rules, political and military issues and many others. This section basically deals with anything that may want to spoil peace from within. Officers from this department also provide security for civilians. They also strive to protect democracy; they provide stability wherever there is a conflict, counter internal terrorists, provide criminal justice globally, fight human trafficking and many other pertinent issues.

Regarding public diplomacy, they handle communication related issues such as press briefings, releasing statements through the press, registering and updating events and giving international information and programs. In addition to these, they also address issues like history, culture, education and foreign relation matters among other functions assigned to them by the constitution. All these events and functions are driven toward bringing and nurturing peace and co-existence among people in this world.

The last category of activities carried out by this department is the assistance and development department. This department is responsible for keeping all the resources of the US foreign assistance sector. It is also home for the office of global health diplomacy, the United States of America Agency for International Development and the AIDS relief. All the assistance given by the country to different needy people all over the world is authorized by this department.
