Giving Chocolate Gift Baskets As Presents

By Lucia Weeks

There are occasions where you really want to send a present to someone, but perhaps you can't decide on what to give. Maybe the person in question is more of an acquaintance than friend, so you are unsure of their taste. Perhaps you ordered something that got misdirected in the mail, and need something quickly to make up for it. In any of these cases and more, chocolate gift baskets are a perfect solution.

These gift baskets come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and contents. Some feature just chocolate items such as candy bars and cocoa mixes just to name a few. Some may feature only milk or dark chocolate, or perhaps even white chocolate for recipients with very specific likes. Some might mix up all three types for variety and a little bit of fun.

Though chocolate is obviously the main draw in these gifts, there are lots of other options for goodies to fill it up as well. Think chocolate-covered or dipped foots like cookies, cake pops, and even salty goods like pretzels. You may even find cocoa mugs or mixing spoons that are not consumable but could help you consume the basket contents.

The holidays are a very busy time for gift baskets, so these should be available all over the place in many retailers both local and national. It's easy if you buy one and give it in person to the recipient, but gift giving is not always that easy. The person you wish to give it to may live out of the city, or maybe on the other side of the country. Thankfully, there is an easy solution to this--delivery. Many companies offer delivery either as a part of the price of the basket, or for an extra charge. They could be either hand delivered or sent via mail.

Delivery is very convenient and reliable, but it doesn't come without issues. Be sure to consider the weather where the recipient is before choosing delivery because chocolate melts very quickly. If it is winter and your recipient lives in the north, then this isn't a problem. However, if they live in the south and its summer or even spring, the candy could get ruined if left on the porch by a mailman.

Many people only think to send gift baskets out during Christmas, but they really are good for many other holidays. Think about the chocolate bunnies and other confections for Easter. Valentine's Day is great because an entire basket is way better than a simple box of them. There are many other holidays besides Christmas where this would be a great, welcome treat.

Besides national holidays, there are other more personal occasions where one of these presents would be a hit. Birthdays are an obvious choice, especially for the chocoholic in your life. Another example would be as a Get Well Soon gift, or perhaps an anniversary present. A mother who just had a baby may appreciate the gesture as well.

With so many occasions for buying this type of gift, there is no reason not to buy and send one to someone in your life. From close family members to work colleagues, these baskets are always much appreciated.
