Planning A Fabulous Central Park Wedding

By Susan Anderson

Getting married is one of the most important days of your life and naturally it should be special and memorable. Traditional church weddings do not appeal to everyone and court house ceremonies can seem clinical and rushed. A popular alternative for a fairy tale location is to have a central park wedding.

In the middle of one of the world's most famous cities, New York, NY, this stunning parkland is truly iconic having featured in movies and TV series. A landmark in its own right it provides a beautiful setting for the perfect romantic marriage ceremony. There are numerous places within the park to choose from and they can all be booked online. There is also help available to plan your whole day and ensure everything runs smoothly.

Situated off 5th Avenue at 105th Street, one of the most popular places for weddings is the glorious Conservatory Garden. There are three different European styled areas, each having a feature fountain or pool. The English area features a circular labyrinth while the Italian style pergola gives an ideal backdrop for taking photographs.

Another popular location for wedding parties is The Ladies Pavilion. It is over on the west side of the city between 75th and 76th Streets. This extremely picturesque Victorian styled pavilion is adjacent to The Lake. It brings to mind the Victorian era when young women carrying parasols and their beaus walked among the trees and bushes planning their own special day.

For complete tranquility and a feel of nature, The Pond provides the perfect setting. Ducks glide on the water with trees and flowers framing the lake beautifully. The Gapstow Bridge can be seen in the background adding even more interest to the scene. The Pond can be found just inside the main entrance off 5th Ave, at 56th St.

Once you have decided that you want to marry in Central Park, you will need to choose a suitable date. It is worth bearing in mind that you cannot erect tents or pavilions, so the weather will play a factor. Make sure to plan a backup location in case the weather is too bad. Once you have decided on the date you can go online to the location you have chosen.

Next you will need to think about how many guests are going to attend. Some of the locations have restrictions on numbers due to the size of the area and the maximum number in the largest area is 300. If you have more than 20 guests then you will need a permit from the Department of Parks and Recreation. This can be applied for online and will take up to 30 days to arrive. Your planner can help with this.

You will also need to get a marriage license which can be obtained from the city clerk. There is information about this online and it is necessary wherever you choose to get married. You must have your license at least a day before you can get married. There are several companies on the web offering planning services who can organize every part of your very special day.
