Tips To Work As A Soup Kitchen Volunteer New Hampshire

By John Murray

You might choose to do unpaid work for so many reasons. It could be because you want to give back to the community or because you have a lot of free time and you want to do something useful. Whatever the reason, these organizations could always do with an extra hand at whatever time of the year. Here is what you need to know about working as a soup kitchen volunteer New Hampshire.

Carefully choose the clothes that you are going to wear and the shoes. Your shoes should be comfortable, such that you can stay on your feet for long periods of time. In addition, wear comfortable clothes that are not revealing. They should be clothes that you do not mind getting dirt on or stains, since your clothes can easily get dirty while you are working. You will get gloves, an apron and hair nets.

No need to carry valuable stuff, if you do not want them to get stolen. Also consider that your valuables could get damaged. Leaving your stuff in the car is also not a good idea, in case someone breaks into your car. As much as there is security in the parking area, someone might get past the security and steal from your car.

You should be a fast worker. The aim is that you should not hold up the line, so when it comes time to serve, you should be ready to work and focused. In addition, inform the people who are working in the kitchen when you notice that the food is about to get finished, so that they can add some more food. If you are the one giving out the tickets, keep it far from the patrons, so that no one can pick up one when you are not looking.

Try as much as possible to serve equal amounts of food to everyone. Do not serve some people more food than others, as this could bring issues. Also, be extra vigilant about the quality of food you are dishing out. If you see that the food has mold or you notice that it is stale, do not serve it. Sometimes, this can slip past the vigilant eyes of the person in charge.

You need to take care of the area where you are working. Keep it clean and do not leave it in a mess. If any food falls out, throw it away. Do not put it back in the serving bowls.

Check your attitude and try as much as possible to be in a positive mood. Greet the people and address them respectfully. In case you complete your job, you can grab some food and share a table with some of the patrons as you talk with them.

There are lots of things you can do here, apart from serving food. For instance, you can fund raise for the organization, as they are always looking for money to support the work of the organization. You can also keep the kids entertained or even sing for them, if you are a musician.
