Make Your Own Celiac Bagels

By Patricia Hamilton

It's not easy to live with gluten intolerance. In fact, it's not easy to live with any type of food intolerance, and it's not cheap neither. There are some replacements for bread, milk or other types of food, but these replacements are mostly expensive. Well, sometimes you might also say they aren't very tasty either. And you can easily make some foods in your kitchen.

Although most bakeries offer a large variety of breads, the one prepared in your own kitchen will surely be the most delicious. You do not have to have your own bread maker to prepare excellent bread. Making delicious celiac bagels is also very easy, and you will surely enjoy your products endlessly. Not to mention the perfect aroma of freshly made bread in your home.

Of course, the basic food for preparing this treat is high quality gluten-free flour. You can use your favorite type or combine several different types until you find the one that suits you best. With a small amount of gluten-free starch, your treats will be even lighter and more delicious. Also, you will need some dry yeast, some baking powder, a little bit of milk, salt and lukewarm water.

To begin with, prepare this simple recipe. Mix three cups of gluten-free flour, 2 teaspoons of dry yeast, and half a teaspoon of baking powder. Add a little sugar, salt, two tablespoons of oil, lukewarm milk and lukewarm water, and make soft dough. Cover with a cloth and allow it to rise for about half an hour.

Make circles and cut hole in each. Place them on a piece of oiled baking paper, and leave them there to rise again. Cook for about twenty seconds in boiling salted water and put them back on oiled baking paper. Preheat the oven and bake your bagels for maybe 20 minutes. It really depends on their size.

If you add some interesting ingredients into the dough, you will make it tastier. So, use any type of seeds, for example pumpkin seeds, sesame, different grains, or maybe chopped nuts. Poppy seeds are especially interesting addition, in salty or sweet bagels. Sweet ones will be great with chopped dry fruits, ginger, cinnamon or vanilla. Just imagine them with chocolate dressing while still warm.

If you want to increase the protein content in your desserts, add one to two teaspoons of chia seeds. Soak the seeds of the seeds in lukewarm water first and then use this mixture to make the dough. You can scrub this liquid if you do not want tiny dark crumbs in your dough. Chia really replaces the egg in a variety of recipes, and is a good source of protein that is essential to your body.

Well, for those who enjoy making lovely sandwiches using tasty bagels, there is no reason you should not make your dough richer and tastier. So, you could add grated cheese in your dough mixture, with some olive oil. Or you could add chili peppers, chopped herbs, dried tomatoes or different interesting spices, combined with pumpkin seeds or whatever you want. Enjoy preparing and consuming these treats.
