The Advantages Of Using Remanufactured Engines

By Timothy Burns

The process of doing a rebuilding of a product according to its original specifications by the combination of repaired, reused, or new parts is called as remanufacturing. The replacement of some parts or components which are already worn out and are subject to degradation is required. So remanufacturing is one form of product recovery, and so it is expected that the remanufactured product must be the same as a new product.

This process includes restoring a product to its like new condition by undergoing a series of industrial processes. The first process is components disassembling and cleaning the parts which can be reused. The next step is reassembling the products from the old components, expected to look exactly the same as the original product. Manufactured products mostly ranges from musical instruments, robots, machines and equipment, air conditioning units, compressors, to remanufactured engines.

There are four main benefits when remanufacturing engines. First is having a lower cost. These can be one of the important factors that affects engine remanufacturing. These engines costs fifty percent less when being compared to new Tier 4 engine. The maintenance for Tier 4 types can be very costly.

Second is less downtime. When you decide on replacing an old engine, it may require significant engineering time and it may possibly provide rental equipment that is out of service for a few months. The processes of integrating and testing a new Tier 4 engine takes longer compared to remanufactured ones.

Third is increased resale value. The availability and the serviceability of it are two factors for difficult selling of a Tier 4 equipment. There may be countries who are less regulated, thus, not acquiring technologies that support these type of products. Also, they do not have low sulfur diesel fuel which is required for its operation.

Fourth, sustainability. Purchasing an engine that was rebuilt is a great contribution for helping in the reduction of impact of waste to the environment. Utilizing the recycled components and parts will lessen the energy used since it only uses 80 percent of it compared to a new product.

Product recovery has also some forms which include repair, reuse, reconditioning or refurbishing, cannibalization, and recycling. Reuse is the process of using an item for a lot of times. Its advantages include saving raw materials and energy, reducing the disposal costs and needs, cost savings for both consumers and businesses, and older items are better handcrafted.

Repair would involve fixing any devices, it maybe mechanical, electrical, or plumbing. Another term for this is scheduled maintenance in which there is a routine actions which is being performed in order to keep it in a working order. These actions involve all combinations of technical, managerial, administrative, and supervision actions.

To recycle is to convert waste materials into reusable items through a series of processes. This may help reducing waste, usage of raw materials, energy, and pollution for both air and water. Cannibalization is removing components of similar object and putting it a device which needs that part for functioning when there are no spare parts to be provided.
