What To Do On A Marco Island Vacation

By Scott Wagner

When it comes to spots to visit in the United States, Florida is often towards the top of the list. This is for good reason, as the Sunshine State is home to many beachfront cities, including Marco Island. In fact, a Marco Island Vacation is one of the best things to do when in Florida.

Marco Island is located in Collier County, and is located in the southwestern area of the state. It has a long and rich history, as many artifacts have been dug up in local archaeological sites. In fact, some of those artifacts date back as far as 500 A. D, making this a great destination for people who love history.

Beyond the rich history of the land, there is the weather that everyone enjoys, especially in winter. During the coldest months of the year, Florida remains largely temperate, with clear skies and sunny days. Snow birds, or people who live in the area in winter to escape blustery winter weather, flock to the area every year. The locals who live there year round usually get the island back in summer, during the rainy season.

In the summer, when the area is the hottest, is also when the rain comes. From June to October, during hurricane season, the area experiences a lot of downpours. There are still many clear days, but it does rain quite a bit. This is why most tourists wait until after the season passes in order to go and visit, when things dry up.

When you visit, you will see that life and especially the tourist activities, really revolve around the beaches and the water. You can do simply things like sunbathing or building sand castles just to relax. Or go for something more exciting such as jet skis, speed boats and paddle boards, all available for rent on one of the many beaches in the area.

Getting on a boat will seem like second nature by the time your vacation ends, as there are many activities to choose form involving boats. Sightseeing tours is one of them, letting you travel all the nearby islands in style. Or take a dolphin tour to see these graceful, intelligent creatures up close in their natural habitat.

You could also take a boat to Cape Romano, which has some great photo opportunities. This is especially true of the domed homes that are quite famous and fun to visit. While you are there, hit a nearby beach and go shelling. This is a great place to collect shells for crafts or to take home as a souvenir.

Fishing is also an activity that you will see plenty of people doing. There are many boats available for charter to take you out into the deep sea and catch a variety of different fish. The crew knows the best spots and will clean the fish and even ship it home if you do not live nearby.

You can fly in and book a hotel or rent a car separately, but that will cost you more than a package deal. To save money and make the planning process easier, consider a package deal to get you there.
