Start adding spacers on stem of owned bicycle to give the longer position which is wanted. When the comfortable height has been added enough, proceed with installation of everything to the way it was before being dismantled. Tighten the screws in ways wherein it will not cause any trouble when riding the bike.
For the threaded types, its handlebar has long stems that usually fits into the frame of bikes. Instead of spacers, this one has screws attached on its backside. It can also be possible that plastic rings are on top as well as bottom of the handlebar stem.
First step with this one is measuring the length between the upper parts of stem to the exact bike frame. Be mindful of the exact measurement and take note of it if possible. This is in case there is a need of reverting it back to its normal height because the adjustment was not as comfortable as expected then this can be done easily.
After which, start unscrewing the bolt using the same tools that can be used with the thread less type. The motion should be of counterclockwise, then turn it for about five times to successfully have it loosen. Then, the stem can be moved freely on an up or a down motion depending on which adjustment is desired.
Just make sure that when adjusting its height, it does not go beyond the marking that serves as guide on how high the handlebar should go. Raising it way beyond that would mean danger when riding the bicycle. Once the exact position desired is already achieved then go ahead and finish it through keeping it straight while tightening it on its top screw.
