Broiling, by definition, is a type of cooking in which food is placed underneath high levels of heat. This is usually done in order to prepare certain types of meat, steak and chicken being two of the most prominent examples. With that said, you may be curious about how to go about this culinary endeavor. For both cooking school students and those who would simply like to learn how to cook, here is a list of tips you'd be wise to look into.

Broiling can be fulfilled, to the highest level of quality, when placement is kept in mind. Specifically, you have to ensure that cuts are placed relative to how thick they are. For instance, if you're someone who enjoys a meatier type of steak, you're going to want to cook it away from the heat source so that it doesn't wind up burning. Thinner cuts, on the other hand, can benefit from being closer to said source. Keep these points in mind the next time you decide to broil.

You should also know that broiling does not take much time to complete. Anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes is all that will be required to ensure the thorough preparation of various ingredients, whether it's the meat you enjoy or tender ingredients in general. Basically, products like these are not going to require much time for thorough culinary preparation. For those who are focused on learning as much about cooking as possible, this is definitely worth recognizing.

If you think that broiling and grilling are alike, you have to consider the differences between them. The main point of contrast, in my view, has to be the way in which heat is distributed. While grilling involves heat coming from below, broiling works with heat that comes from above. What this means is that tastes will be different and, depending on what you prefer, you may see broiling as the more ideal method for the purpose of preparing a litany of foods.
