What A Church Building Committee Does To Your Community

By Beryl Dalton

Any activity requires planning. Regardless of how small it is, somebody or a group needs to head the cause in order to see it come to fruition. Those individuals who have the skills and willingness to head the venture are those same people who play vital roles in the success of the activity. They can be anyone within the community.

For a community of believers, building a church is necessary. This is the place where they gather, express their faith and worship God along with the other members. The construction of the place is so delicate that a church building committee has to be organized.

Individuals who comprise this group are those who have the technical skills for construction and the head pastor or minister of the church. They have specific roles to do and are proven to be efficient on that field. Specifically, here are their major roles.

Supervision of the process. Any project will not be successful if there is no one who takes charge . The committee has the chairman as the head and is the one who oversees the developments of the construction. He has the power to call meetings and gather the rest of the group to plan or to agree on certain modification if any.

Creation of project design. After the detailed planning, the actual putting out of idea follows. This is where the technical skills of architects and engineers come in. They provide the details of the building process and creates a blue print of the place. This is then shown to the whole group for approval. Things that have to be changed or improved will be addressed during the gathering.

Handling of the budget. The design will reveal the necessary things to be bought. It is then the role of the finance committee to check the materials required for the construction, identify the needed expense and cross reference it to the money that they have at hand. They are the ones who inform the group if there is a need to raise more money to buy all the needed tools.

Informing the whole community. Of course, the members of the church cannot be left out. You have the right to know and the committee makes sure that you do. They release announcements on bulletins informing the people about the progress of the construction. Any updates are relayed to the public for transparency.

Getting funds. There are times when the money received from the collection during mass or gathering is not enough. In this case, the committee finds ways to raise funds by organizing some activities. It could be in a form of a bazaar, an exhibit and the like. All the amount gained in here will be used for the project.

Be of help to your community by being attentive on its current ventures. Who knows, you might have the skills that they are looking for. Ask other members and get involved. You have something to offer. Share what you have to the rest of the believers.
