Makers Of Supercars Not Hurting Due To Gas Price Hike

By Cornelius Nunev

supercars will always be immune in some respects to high gas costs, and firms that make them have not been bothered by the recent gas price hikes. Though luxury brands are beginning to release green cars, traditional ultra-performance cars are still readily accessible for people who have the disposable funds. The man who can afford a Lamborghini can afford to keep it full of fuel, and the supercar market is a little more insular than the typical car industry due to that.

McLaren driving faster than Bugatti

In 2014, McLaren will have a new car to debut that it is working on, AutoWeek reports. McLaren is a race vehicle business. The business that brought the world the F1, the fastest road vehicle in the world for almost a decade, is releasing its new automobile this year, the MP4-12C, but McLaren isn't content to rest on its laurels. Now, McLaren has a new project. The car will get about 800 horsepower with its 5-liter motor. The vehicle is expected to cost $500,000 for any person that is interested. It should go 0 to 200 miles per hour faster than the Bugatti Veyron can with 2.8 seconds need to go from 0 to 60.

General Motors jobs increase with Corvette

GM, according to CNN, is adding about 250 new jobs to the rolls to be able to develop a new Corvette and investing almost $131 million in developing the new version of Chevrolet's sports automobile. The Corvette has been produced since 1981 in the Bowling Green, Ky., GM plant and will continue to do so for the next few years with the new car, which means several jobs will be opening up. There is no detailed information accessible about this new Corvette yet, and no release date has been set at this point. Popular Mechanics reports that Chevrolet is considering a new Camaro for 2012 with ZL1 Camaro as the name. The same 6.2L V-8 in the Cadillac CTS-V with over 550 horsepower will be put in the ZL1.

More than just a fast car

Performance car makers are concerned about the environment a little bit, although the cars that come from these automakers do not generally concern themselves with the environment. Hybrid automobile engineers are being interviewed by McLaren. It hopes to create more "green" vehicles. USA Today states that Porsche is selling its 918 Spyder right now. This can be a plug-in hybrid that can go three more miles than the plug-in Prius hybrid coming out on just electric power, can go from 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds and tops out at 199 miles per hour. The car also has good mileage. Its mileage is 78 miles per gallon typically. Ferrari unveiled a hybrid version of the 599 in 2010 and intends to have hybrid versions of all of its vehicles by 2015, according to the Daily Mail. The 599 HY-KERS is the name of the car that can get up to 25 miles per hour while going 200 miles in one hour of driving. It has the same V-12 engine too. Popular Science reports that in 2009, Lamborghini declared it wanted to have a hybrid by 2015. It seems even the worst cars are going green. Everyone wants to save the environment.
