Options In Travel Trailers For Sale

By Harriett Crosby

If you are looking for travel trailers for sale it is important to know what to expect ahead of time. Many people do not know the difference between a motor home, a camping trailer and a travel trailer. Campers and travelers are similar but the size and amenities are worlds apart. Motor homes are in a class by themselves and cannot be compared to a trailer because they are driven rather than towed.

A trailer is meant to be towed behind a vehicle. Campers can be towed by cars where as travelers need a van or large pick up for their transport. They are much larger than campers and contain amenities such as baths and kitchens an well as ample living and sleeping space. Many come equipped with sky lights and awnings for protection from the sun.

Floor plans for a traveler are many and varied. Each model may come with ten to twelve different lay outs to choose from. They have the look of an apartment when entering and easily convert at bedtime. They are perfect for roaming the country on vacations, tailgating at sports events or even for full time living after retirement.

The largest of these will be around twenty four feet in length and fifteen feet tall. You will not find many with any kind of slide out extensions. The extra weight and bulk would serve to damage the overall package you are purchasing. The available models will sleep at least eight and will handle twelve if necessary.

The vehicle you own may limit the size of any selection you make. You need to own a van or a large pick up to tow the larger models. A car or SUV would prove inadequate for the job possibly leaving you stranded on the side of a road with a break down.

Fifth wheelers are also an option. They can be larger and heavier because of the way they are hooked with a special hitch to the middle of the bed of a pickup truck. They can actually afford you extra room because the goose neck design allows for more sleeping room over the bed of your truck. The interiors are just as spacious and durable as seen in other traveling homes featuring lots of wood surfaces and comfortable seating.

The last option is the toy-haulers. These are designed with a platform on the back to accommodate the owner's toys such as dirt bikes, ATVs or bicycles. The platform takes living space from the interior of the vehicle and so the feel is somewhat less luxurious than the other models. They have been likened to a garage on wheels by some consumers.

Sales personnel at RV lots can show you many different models of travel trailers for sale. The size and opulence of your choice is up to you. The best way to begin is to research prior to stepping onto the lot. As with any big purchase you need to know what your preferences are and the limits of your budget so that you can feel assured that you are getting exactly what you want.
