In the modern world, it is a requirement that licensed clinical social workers (LCSW) engages in continuing education units (CEUs) that keep them abreast with the current issues facing the society. For this reason, state governments set up state boards that deal with the licensing of social workers. Such boards design specific courses that must be completed to qualify for renewal of the practicing licenses. With many LCSW CEUs certificates currently available, the social worker must balance the state board requirements and the work environment requirements before settling on particular CEUs to take.

A licensed clinical social worker is an area of profession requiring individuals to have at least Masters Degree qualification in a particular social health field. This degree should be backed up with thousands of hours in clinical training and numerous exams. Before embarking on what units to settle for, the state requirements must be considered in addition to the requirement of areas of specialization as both matters in license renewal.
